Christian Pulisic is the latest name to feature on Chelsea’s injury list. The American forward hurt his knee in the first half of Chelsea’s 1-0 loss against Manchester City on Thursday.
Manager Graham Potter said the club is still analyzing Pulisic’s knee. However, he estimated that this stint on the sidelines could stretch into February. It comes at a terrible time for Potter and Chelsea, with the club putting together a string of bad results in all competitions. Knocked out of both the Carabao Cup and FA Cup, Chelsea sit 10th in the Premier League. Moreover, the club lost six of its last nine games in all competitions.
The latest Christian Pulisic injury happened in one of those losses. Played through on goal, Pulisic met a hard and fair challenge from City defender John Stones.
At first, the American tried to continue. However, he could not continue. Potter replaced Pulisic with Carney Chukwuemeka.
Christian Pulisic not alone on Chelsea’s injury report
In the same game against Manchester City, Potter had to make another first-half substitution due to injury. Raheem Sterling departed the game in the fifth minute. Potter says Chelsea’s medical staff are still analyzing Sterling’s knock, and there is no timetable for his return, as of now.
The two injuries against City in the league compounded an already popular list of names out for some time. The biggest losses are fullbacks Reece James and Ben Chilwell to go along with midfielder N’golo Kante, who has missed the entire season thus far.
Other injured players for Chelsea include Edouard Mendy, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Wesley Fofana and Armando Broja.
Using the transfer window
While injury concerns for Raheem Sterling and Christian Pulisic are serious, they come at a time when Chelsea can bring in solutions. One of those seems to be on the way.
On Monday, João Félix verbally agreed to join Chelsea on loan for the remainder of the season from Atletico Madrid. The Portuguese winger cost Chelsea around $11 million just for the four months of service. However, based on the Blues’ current form and the rising injuries, it is a necessary action.
